Military justice reform moves forward in Brazil

Monitor Digital reports that the proposal of update the 1992 military justice law is moving forward in the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies. The measure would, among other things, remove military jurisdiction over civilians, provide that a civilian judge would preside at courts-martial, and create a process for handling complaints against judges. The measure must now be examined by a rapporteur and legislative committee before consideration by the full chamber. Look for action by early 2015.
