Court-martial appeals to be shifted to new Irish Court of Appeal

The Four Courts Complex
The Irish cabinet has approved new legislation that would create a 10-judge Court of Appeal between the High Court and the Supreme Court. The new court's jurisdiction would incorporate, among other things, the jurisdiction previously exercised by the Courts-Martial Appeal Court, thus integrating the military justice system more fully within the main institutions of the administration of justice in the country. The Irish Times reports that "[d]ecisions of the new court will be final unless the Supreme Court certifies that the case involves a matter of general public importance or it is necessary in the interests of justice that there should be an appeal to the Supreme Court." The new intermediate court will be located in the Four Courts Complex.
