President Rocha's agenda

Maria Elizabeth Rocha, newly-installed president of the Brazilian Supreme Military Tribunal, is wasting no time making her views known. In an interview with Brazil TV's Public Space program she argued against demilitarization of the police and noted that the 2006 Maria da Penha Law, concerning domestic violence, should be extended to the armed forces. She "promised action in favor of gender equality and against discrimination against homosexuals in the military" and cautioned that the use of torture by some sociopaths in the military during the dictatorship should not stain the entire institution.
